So lately I’ve been caught up reading the Wheel of Time series. I won’t say it’s the best ever with the same drooling fanaticism that some of our crew would claim (NANNERS. MELLY.), but it IS enjoyable as hell when the characters aren’t fawning over one another. But that’s neither here nor there – we’re here to talk about MANGA, and today, we deliver — count ‘em! — not one, but TWO releases for your reading pleasure, both of which have been an eternity in the making (due in no small part to my own procrastination and preoccupations OTL), but hey. You don’t want to hear me rant. You want to READ COMICS.

Where we last left off, Kizuna and Yuki had made up about their past, uh… transgressions, inasmuch as two people who weren’t even really fighting to begin with can make-up, and Kizuna leaves us with the thought that, “Boy howdy, do I wish I could figure out how to make Asai not so bloody irked at me.” And then it starts raining. The question is, what next? ENTER THIS CHAPTER. Editing duty pulled this time around by c0de_da1sy, with QC magic in deft command by Melfra and Clov3r. And yet another fans have been clamoring for, Barajou 30! Where we last left off in THIS one, Idel and Anis had a hardcore bromance moment that made me ship them pretty friggin’ hard. Anis is pretty much the closest thing you can get to Gar in a girly comic series, as far as I’m concerned. I WILL HEAR NO OTHER OPINIONS ON THIS MATTER.

If you’re one of the few who dropped Barajou because it didn’t seem to be going anywhere, now’s a good time to pick it back up. Starting with this chapter, we’re plunging headlong into an arc that’s still ongoing in the magazine (as of ch. 36), and it’s BRICK-SHITTING AWESOME, JSYK. I would also like to state for the record that I would bag Itsushi in a New York minute, and Schwartz too, for that matter. You guys can fight over everybody else.

We saw it with Kaede and Mikage, now we’re getting it with Mutsuki and Anis. Hot damn, Shouoto, do you know your eroges! You know, sometimes I wonder if she’s doing this on purpose…

Today we present a great chapter of Barajou which happens to be one of the worst in fandom, thanks to the Mutsuki/Anis camp who have spoiled the climax of this chapter for every last goddamn one of you unfortunate enough to look at so much as their signatures. Granted, though, it might not beat how determined every Kaede/Anis fan is to spoil chapter 32… OH, BUT WHO CARES. Mikage is farkin’ ADORABLE, and the return of a certain masked hero propels this installment squarely into JAWESOME territory. READ IT, LOVE IT, AND EMBRACE IT. Oh, and don’t read the back cover until you finish the chapter. Spoils the WHOLE. DAMN. THING.

IN THIS CHAPTER! c0de_da1sy reigns in the mighty donkey(!?) that IS the editing force behind this chapter, and wielding their peerless penmanship projectiles of JUSTICE are Melfra and Clov3r, who right the wrongs of grammar faux pas! Together they are… THE KNIGHTS OF THE QC TABLE.

This is unexpectedly badass!

First off, apologies for the delay in new releases. Most of you were pretty understanding, which I appreciate, and thanks for the well-wishes. (For those just tuning in, I injured my back a couple of weeks ago, and have been recouping from that in the meantime. I’M ALL BETTER NOW.) Unfortunately, due to my taking time off work, bills are running extremely tight in the Turtle household. The Turtle Paradise domain renewal deadline is this Thursday, and both Melly and I get paid on Fridays, so either Turtle Paradise gets shut down, possibly opening up our domain for gankage for a day, or we need to get some donations in here, pronto! Effective with the next issue of Aria magazine, we’ll be picking up Junketsu+Kareshi. Yeah, you heard me. The fine folks at Omari’s Sister approached us a couple of days ago asking if we’d take over the series once they formally dropped it, and Melly and I, being the complete and utter Shouoto whores that we are, figured, hell, why not– even if we didn’t like it, that’s some SEXY AS HELL art. Now, now; I hear some of you in the dark recesses of the interbutts whining, “Aw, dammit, now that Turtle Paradise has it, we’ll have to wait MONTHS before they get caught up!” FEAR NOT, LURKERS! Aria Magazine has such kick-ass quality that we’ll be working from the magazine instead of the volume releases, starting with chapter 10 and releasing once a month right on schedule with the Japanese releases. It’s been a while since we at TP did anything like that, so personally, I’m looking forward to that “real-time” feel.

Second up, to help ease the pain of waiting for volume 3 (which won’t arrive at TP HQ until at least the beginning of June), here’s a special Birdcage Manor “Premium Book,” and premium it is… This prime piece of printing paradise ran us just over $80! But come on, it’s Birdcage. How can you expect us to resist? (Also, this is why I hate it when people refuse to support the industry – Melly and I spend around $50 in imports alone every month!) At any rate, included in this mini-book is a short comic, production sketches and notes from Takarai Rihito (Glee!) and a few pages of short four-panel gags. Don’t come into my place expecting me to justify my wholly unfounded claims of supposed future grandeur! Farkin’ A, man. Kids these days. That said, we have three hopefully biatchin’ releases for you today.

The first of which is SLH, which continues to tick our staff off more and more with each chapter. Trust me, it only gets worse from here. Don’t get me wrong, though — we’re not dropping it. Barajou no FANCYPANTS

Sometimes you’re reading a series and you end up thinking to yourself somewhere down the line with no real provocation or logic to the whole thing, kind of like an epiphany: “You know, maybe this is a kind of silly series, but I like it despite all its shortcomings,” and you resign yourself to that story’s faults because, gosh-darn-it, you’re having fun reading it and that’s all that matters.

And then there comes an actual, AWESOME chapter that you weren’t expecting in the least and as you’re sitting there, kind of shell-shocked in the moment, the story walks up to you and says, “‘Sup, hear you thought I was mediocre,” and just BITCH SLAPS YOU ACROSS THE FACE AS HARD AS IT CAN.

This chapter is Barajou’s bitch-slap to the face. And, as Tenjoh might say, IT HURTS SOOOOOO GOOOOOD.

And that is all I will say about that. Oh, and Tenjoh’s a pervert. BUT I LOVE THAT BASTARD SO BAD.
