On that note, I’ve recently had the, uh, dubious privilege of watching the Lost Universe anime for the first time, and I can see where some of the initial doubt came from when we first announced we’d be picking up this title. If you’ve been hesitating to pick the series up because the anime left a bad taste in your mouth, stop. Right now. And start reading the manga. You will not regret it. One of the more heinous omissions on the anime’s part was its adaptation of the manga equivalent of chapters 12-14, featuring Jess and Melina, which seriously glossed over their deal to the point where you weren’t quite sure what everyone was freaking out about by the time shit hit the fan. I’m not sure which is closer to the original novel, but either way, the manga is vastly, vastly, vastly superior to the anime and definitely deserves a chance to stand on its own without prior bias.

AND THAT’S ENOUGH OF ME SELLING IT. Also, go watch Avengers. OH MY GOD.

HOPE THAT CREEPED YOU OUT. Seriously though, IT’S TIME FOR A ONE-SHOT. This is the story about two fox deities (original: Inari) who, true to the fox spirit, get up to no good all the time. Punking each other, watching anime, junking out, etc, and generally pissing off their foul-mouthed master, Shio. Then they meet a cameraman who’s all HEY GUYS YOUR SHRINE IS PRETTY RUN DOWN HUH and they’re like YEAH WE SHOULD PROBABLY DO SOMETHING ABOUT THAT wait I mean THOU HAVE A POINT and… Well, that’s the setup, so read the rest to figure out what the hell happens. It’s cute as shit, I love the art, and I can’t wait for this guy to put out more stuff, because I will follow him to the ends of the earth for those eyelashes. And I mean, seriously, look at those faces.

And I know we keep saying we’re going to do more one-shots, but those buggers are hard to find, so drop us a line if you catch a whiff of anything interesting. THAT SAID! Y’all can say what you want, but Maxi is the moe-est kid EVER. Speaking of which, this was published around the same time that Ooba Wakako started doing the designs for Wild ARMS 3. Maybe that explains some things? Such as Guy being a dead-ringer for Clive. HAW.

There’s only one gal with the typographical know-how necessary to wrangle in a title like this, and that’s Zippy! And who’s the mastermind behind all this here GRAPHICAL MASTERY? Why, it’s c0de_da1sy! And let’s not forget Melfra, without whom, hell, this project wouldn’t have been possible. Why, look who it is! Anis may be pegged on both the gar and moe radars, but Mikage’s got her beat as the queen of moe, if you ask me. ヽ(*´∀｀)ﾉ On second thought, it might be too close to call… Let’s just say Mikage ranks up megas points this chapter.

Come to think of it, I vaguely remember playing Phantasmorgia as a kid. Scary freakin’ shite. Even in retrospect though, I loved the live-action movie scenes… unless people were getting their shit farked up, in which case oh boy nightmare city FOREVER. When you’re eleven, YOU HAVE NO REALITY FILTER. But that’s neither here nor there. GO READ YOUR CHAPTER.

There’s a flashback portion near the end of this chapter (You’ll know it when you see it) that was my absolute favorite EVER to translate. STAFF ROLL CALL! At the helm with her flighty fingers of photo finickry is c0de_da1sy! And with Melfra and Clov3r at the QC stations, they’re gunnin’ down script snafoos like Luke Skywalker on desert wombats back home in his T-16. (Disclaimer: MAN I DON’T EVEN KNOW ヽ(‘ー`)ノ)

But that’s not what you’re here for! You’re here for RELEASES, and hobuddy ARE WE DELIVERING OR WHAT.

First up, Birdcage Manor is BACK! Which I’ve promptly decided to rename “The adventures of moe-moe Asai-kun and his significantly less moe living companions,” for reasons you’ll see there at the right. Where we last left our heroes, a power outage had Kiz’naw and moe-moe Asai-kun trapped in the elevator which, contrary to typical shoujo trappings, didn’t help them in the goddamn least. NOW COMES THE FALL-OUT.

Second! We’re rapidly approaching the conclusion to Wild Arms: Flower Thieves and with only one chapter after this to go, the tensions are high, and the standoffs are bad-ass. Oh, and you can’t have a western without a good ol’ fashioned train-jacking, and Wild Arms, let’s face it, isn’t one to betray tradition. AND THERE IS NOT A THING WRONG WITH THAT — I just wish more of you read it! ;__; Besides, Guy is badass. I mean, come on. Look at that. Unf, unf.

NEXT! We continue on with the much-neglected Lost Universe! (Hah. Slayers joke? Perhaps. CAN YOU TELL I’M OBSESSED) Since I continue to feel obligated to recap each preceding chapter because it’s been SO LONG since we released anything, where we last left off, Raile had convinced Kain & co to taxi him to the U.G. satellite database center, where he sets about collecting security against his “employers” — and appropriately enough, practically any Slayers fan knows the meaning of what he finds. THEN HE SETS THEM UP THE BOMB.

And rounding up our releases for the day, all I can say is please… please, don’t kill me. Because instead of the much, much anticipated ch. 32 (I know you guys are foaming at the bit for it), we have… THE EXTRA CHAPTER THAT CAME AT THE END OF VOL 7. This rounds up volume 7, so now you can download the whole thing in one go. =D On that note, SURE MUTSUKI YOU SLEEP IN A COFFIN AND YOU GET MAD WHEN PEOPLE THINK YOU’RE A VAMP. UH HUH. OKAY.

You know, one of the things that initially attracted both me and Melly to Barajou were its S&M/Bondage parodying undertones, something we’ve both been missing in recent issues quite a bit. Until now. Normally I’d say this is where volume 7 ends– and it does, for story purposes– but there’s such a HUGE gap in tone between this chapter and the side story that comes next that I figured it’d be best to release it sometime later, instead. That, and I like making you guys SQUIIIIRM, which I can guarantee is what you’ll be doing after hitting the last page of this chapter.

Now, as if anyone gave a hoot about what I think, it occurred to me while this chapter was in QC that people reading this who may not be familiar with the Wild ARMs series might see the usage of the word “ARM” here in context and be a little confused. The definition of ARM is usually spelled-out in context in whatever entry of the series the term appears, but for some reason, it isn’t really defined here in the manga. In this case, an ARM is a gun; not an arm as in the limb, as, uh, the concern voiced in the QC process for this chapter. Anywho. I’m still not sure if all firearms are ARMs in this series or what, but it’s pretty significant that the new baddie has one and other people know it. END OF LESSON, ENJOY YOUR NEW CHAPTER.
