SPAMBOX / Change that sentence!
« on: November 04, 2013, 04 PM »
You will be given one sentence as a starter. Rework it however you like by adding or removing a small amount of punctuation and words as you see fit. For example, "shit son" can become "son, you shit". All sentences must be obviously related in this way. Sentences must make a marginal amount of sense. "shit you bitch tit son of a gun" is only marginally passable with this method (but would not be an appropriate third step). If a sensible sentence cannot be made, the originator will be the winner.

STARTER SENTENCE: Fuck yeah, tiny dinosaurs!

Announcements and Releases / Screwy Wordpress
« on: October 26, 2013, 12 AM »
Tonight's Wordpress upgrade did not go as planned. Despite our backups (YES TOM, THERE ARE BACKUPS, DON'T YOU DARE ASK ABOUT BACKUPS) there was some kind of conflict with the theme files in our Wordpress installation and main page posts are no longer displaying. I'm aware of the problem and vaguely aware of why it's happening, but currently unsure of how to fix it. I will continue working on this problem through the weekend.

Because apparently I didn't have better things to do.

General Discussion / Book Exchange
« on: October 08, 2013, 10 PM »
I'll preface by saying this may be something we'd need a slightly more active forum for. But the idea should work with just a few members as well.

What I propose is a book trading experiment. Take a book you enjoy and mail it off to a friend. Either your friend mails you one of their own, or a different participant mails you a book. We could split it into categories, or you could say what types of genres you're more interested in. The exchange would, of course, include novels, but also manga if people are interested. There's a bit of an honor system involved, so I would recommend sending books you like, but aren't terribly attached to (or own multiple copies of).

My little sister was involved in an exchange like this for quite some time and got some rather excellent reads from it. What do you guys think? Is this something anyone would be interested in? We can sort out the logistics from there if we get a few people involved.

Gaming / Team Ico / the Last Guardian updates and discussion
« on: October 08, 2013, 10 PM »
Anyone following the debacle of the Last Guardian is familiar with the extended hiatus the game has been forced into. It was well known, at the time of conception, that the original Ico was a stress on the PS2's system. The follow up, Shadow of the Colossus, was almost not released on the PS2 due to the strain created on the machine. The result was a version slightly pared down from the original vision (there are rumors of planned additional Colossi, which you can find on several still active SoC forums out there), but still a fantastic game.

So it seems to me that until now, Team Ico has been committed to keeping up with current gen technology for their properties. The Last Guardian (introduced four years ago, in 2009) has become the exception to the rule, as it has all but been confirmed that the game will be released on the upcoming PS4.

Leading me to the point of this topic, to post updates as I see them floating around the internet.

Amusingly, the most recent news for The Last Guardian is... "there is no update!" Apparently, this is news. Thankfully, Shuhei Yoshida all but confirms the PS4 information by refusing to answer which console the game will be on, so in some part, we do have an update.

Obviously for fans of the series, the most promising information is the constant presence of Ueda, who remains involved despite his no-longer-recent departure from the company.

For those of you hearing about Team Ico/SotC, or the Last Guardian today, the first two games are currently available in HD for the PS4. Ico remains one of my favorite games of all time, and the logic in the SotC battles is immensely fun. Ico especially is perfect for the casual gamer, so I strongly recommend it!

The Last Guardian E3 2009 Trailer

For anyone else, what about some speculation? What do you guys think we will see or want to see in this newest installment? Fan theory suggests that Ico and SotC are related due to the presence of godlike creatures and the horned children. Do you think the Last Guardian will strengthen this?

General discussion on any Team Ico games is OK, too!

Thinking of Love Live, the first that comes to mind is, "I can't mention this around Tom," because he'll probably go into the "cancer that's killing anime" tirade and, well, some of us have lost hope. In a fit of despair, I tried out Love Live, and... honestly? It's great. But I lied in the topic, because I'm not going to tell you why you should love Love Live. I'm just going to show you some gifs I made, because Nanners wanted me to and Pai likes cute things. But that shouldn't stop you guys from informing the masses about the wonders of Love Live. In fact, most of you might not know that the reason translations have been so slow is pssst Reb is completely addicted to the Love Live Rhythm game, it's like super bad

Anime & Manga discussion / Sword Art Online
« on: November 10, 2012, 01 PM »
It's about time Sword Art Online graced our forum.

When this season started, SAO seemed like the shoe-in show. I mean, everyone was watching it, from me to Reb to Maru to Crobar to Pai - even Strider was watching. And it was awesome. That first arc (for a time) suffered from some awful pacing issues, but altogether it wasn't... well, it wasn't the worst show around, that's for sure.

But then it happened.

And suddenly SAO was (even more) the most generic thing on the planet and even his sister wanted to get in on it and a;sldjf

so what I'm trying to say is

every week until SAO ends, I think we should get in here and talk about the most recent episode. I need some way to save my twitter feed from my constant SAO sobbing, and there's no way I'm the only one left, right? all the sanes one dropped it?! Might I say this is pretty good timing, since the newest episode airs tonight!

Announcements and Releases / Some updates on the forum
« on: November 08, 2012, 02 PM »
Hey guys

Lame, boring update which apparently some of you (??!!) are really excited about, so here we go:

  • You can now indicate your country via flag. Look at me. Now look at your profile. What is your profile missing? A flag. Just click here and look for the thing that says "Please select your country." Select, save, flag on your profile. Great? Yes.
  • I've also added a bookmark feature. This is a helpful one if you just want to track one or two topics (staffers I'm looking at you) but get overwhelmed with all the forum activity.
  • The forum now has a reputation system. It's been put in place to kind of deter from spammy spam spam stuff, but it's also good for boosting your ego. I don't like the icons yet, but I'll figure something out eventually. To give/take rep, click on the heart icon next to someone's post. From there, you can choose whether you like or dislike a post.
  • On that note, I'm looking for a creative helper who can give me a hand in thinking up things like titles, karma descriptions, and other stuff like that. Drop me a line if you're feeling sssssssssssssssassy
I'm still trying to think of good things to add to the forum, so don't forget to use that suggestions board or yell at me here - either works. Worst I'll do is tell you no, right?

Gaming / A quest with maximum difficulty level
« on: August 14, 2012, 09 PM »

Final Fantasy Memorial
A game so absurd I had to attach a screenshot for people to believe me.

Here's what I know: This doujin game was created sometime in either 2003 or 2005 and uploaded for free use on the creator's website.  It takes place in a crossover FF school setting, which is, in the interest of full disclosure, a dating sim, but that just adds to the value of this game as a colossal trainwreck. (for all interested, yes, you can go after Faris)  The game was taken down around 2008 after S-E contacted the website's creator, and for all intents and purposes has vanished from the net. I've been looking for this game for years, which is why I've given this particular quest a difficulty rating of FIVE STARS.

So if anyone has seen this game, is interested in this game, knows where to get it, or just really wants to laugh at the wealth of bad screenshots in the net, GET TO POSTIN'

Announcements and Releases / New Reader system
« on: July 24, 2012, 02 PM »
This has kind of taken me a long time to do, so this sentence may or may not be an apology.

Anyway, I've listened to a lot of the requests for the reader over the years and today the new version has gone live! You can check it out here. It's designed to match the forum, just like the last one was, except this version is far more polished. What can I say, I had some good ideas to work with. Well, figuring out how to embed fonts really sparked my creativity too >D While viewing images, you can now switch from original size (usually 1600px high) to the reduced size (1200px) images. I didn't think it'd make much of a difference, but the smaller size is definitely my version of choice =D In order for this feature to work, you must have javascript and cookies enabled! So for those of you who haven't been using the reader due to its obnoxious size, feel free to check out the new one!

I have literally nothing of value to say right now so go check it out, tell me what you think, and please remember to post any issues that might arise =D

the wacky font in the header started out as a joke but then I realized I really really liked it lol

Known issues:
Currently the arrow key navigation isn't working. fixed
Inability to resize in certain browsers. Fixed, but cookies will not persist in mobile devices. (not sure if worth fixing)
