Slayers / Slayers... volume 16?! (Novels)
« Last post by Rebmastu on January 20, 2018, 11 AM »
Ladies and germs, I have exciting news! A direct sequel to the Slayers novels is in the works!!!

As part of Dragon Magazine's 30th anniversary celebration, many of their flagship titles are receiving new content. This includes new entries for Full Metal Panic, Seitokai no Ichizon-- and of course, Slayers! Their website goes into detail on the specific stages of the celebration, including an upcoming digital library project. (That should be good news for Slayers Special fans!)

The March 2018 issue announces that the main Slayers storyline will receive a direct sequel in the coming year. (Given the specific language used, we can probably say that this will be a full novel at the very least.) The additional Slayers content in the magazine itself is a basic reintroduction to the Slayers universe and our main 4 - including Lina and Gourry, of course, but Zel and Amelia will be joining the main cast as well!

The snippets of story given are of three different scenes (I'll refrain from going into TOO much detail, as I intend to translate the passages in their entirety and don't want to spoil the fun. =D)

  • In the first, Zel drills Gourry over whether he REALLY remembers his name or not (the compromise they reach makes Lina roll her eyes.)
  • In the second, Lina and Gourry take the Blast Sword to a new(? please confirm!) character named Elaina, an elf, in order to have the dulling spell removed from the sword. She uses an elfin style of magic and tools that Lina is very, very interested in... (From a scholarly perspective!)
  • And finally, the third is a brief battle scene where Amelia throws down with a brand new mazoku. When they find out it's sporting everyone's favorite brand of mythical beast-turned-armor (again?!), Amelia proposes dealing with its magic-cancelling attributes in a way that only she can. (Lina, again, rolls her eyes.)

So with that said, the 16th volume will feature the main four! The tone seems to be pulling more from the comedic side a la Special, but I suppose that's to be expected with how long he's been in that universe versus honpen.

There's no exact word on when the first chapter will be released outside of sometime in 2018, as the Slayers contribution to Dramag's 30th anniversary is specifically in this preview. The verbiage is probably important here, as the other participating projects use more vague phrases such as "a new project is in development!" or "New plans in the works," so I'm sure it will be this year. (Previous interviews with Kanzaka indicate it may be sometime in Spring.)

Stay tuned for a full translation of the preview!

Eurovision has lost it's charm, for me at least. I remember how it was an event everyone was looking forward to back in the day. Nowadays, the songs are so gimmicky and fake. Most of them at least.

General Discussion / No One Expects The Eurovision Contestants!

Eurovision is back!

This year the contest takes place in Kiev after Ukrainie's JAmala won with "Genocide by Russia", a song that neither the viewers nor the juries thought was the best, but both thought was pretty good. It's seriously cool, go check it out.

Runner up was Australia's Dami Im with "Barbie Girl". This one is far less cool, so you can totally skip it.

For some reason Sweden got a decent result with a fifth place, even though we sent a very boring song. Don't look it up.

But that's enough of a history lesson, who are competing for the top spot this year?

A minor disclaimer: it's much harder to predict the field this time than two years ago, as there's no star entry like Mums Måns.

Just like always we have a quite diverse (and strange) field of contestants.

Of the Big Five (France, Spain, Italy, Germany and UK) I only give UK's Lucie Jones with the ballad "Firestorm", I think she'll reach top 13, highest of the Big Five. Betting services Italy as a top contestant but I think they sent a crappy contestant and it's going to show in the results.

A fun entry is Belarus's Naviband with "Is this country? I think this is country". I'm honestly surprised to find them in the finals but it's a fun entry. It's not a winner, but possibly top 10.

Armenia's Artsvik with "Creepy and Flames" might do rather well, since it's creepy in the right way. Top 8 I say!

Moldova gets a honorary mention for sending Epic Sax Guy again. This time they're sending The Sunstroke Project with "Might I sleep with your daughter m'lady (tips fedora)". Yeah, it's awful, I  call Bottom Six on it.

The next interesting entry is Cyprus who're sending Hovig with "One Leg" It's not a winner, but it might do well enough for Top 8 which would be a very good result for Cyprus.

The next contestant isn't good, but it's definitely very fun: Romania sending Ilinca ft. Alex Florea with the song "Unintelligible" this one is going to end up somewhere between place 10 and 20. It's good to have something strange near the end to wake up all those who've fallen asleep by now.

Next we have Ukraine, the host, who despite hosting is participating with a decent entry. They're sending O.Torvald with "Laser Eyes". It's ending up in top 13, which is rather good for a hosting nation.

The last interesting entry is Sweden's Robin Bengtsson with "I Can't Stop" which I initially believed to be unable would be unable to reach the finals. However, after watching the rest of the entries then I do understand why the bets are placing him in the top. There really is nothing better in the contest.

The contest starts in 8 hours and 18 minutes from now.
Be There or be Not Fabulous!
